Common in large scale airsoft games, snipers have a role that is often debated by enthusiasts. In general, an airsoft sniper is a long range recon focused player that is patient and clever. Before crawling onto the field, it is important to understand the strategy behind effective airsoft sniping.

The Airsoft Sniper Load Out

Airsoft snipers will typically use a high tension spring airsoft rifle equipped with a scope and an electric or spring sidearm. It is very important that hard plastic BBs are used for maximum accuracy and range. For large games, your primary consideration will likely be observing enemy movement, neutralizing opposing snipers and breaking up large attacks.

Wear clothing that matches the terrain. For example, urban games require gray gear that blends into your surroundings while, obviously, forest games require standard camouflage. If you are observing enemy movement, be sure to carry a communication device such as a headset or walkie talkie to relay information to your commander.

The Spotter

In real-life scenarios, snipers are often accompanied by spotters, whose role is to identify targets and verify kills. Unfortunately, spotters are entirely unnecessary for airsoft games. With real sniper rifles, the recoil of a shot can make it difficult to see whether a shot has hit a target – the primary reason for a combat spotter. Choosing Hiding Spots

Always assume that, if you can see the enemy without your scope, they can see you. Avoid obvious hiding spots such as structures where enemy players will be cautious. Also, avoid the temptation to choose elevated areas such as trees. While they may seem like great hiding spots, you lose an all important escape route should you reveal your position.

Find a ridge such as a creek bed that provides the maximum view while allowing for cover from fire. If there is no natural foliage to disguise your position, take a few moments to prepare your area. To fool the enemy, try hiding on the opposite side of a creek bed if the area is heavily forested. Multiple targets could be tricked into thinking that you are hiding behind the ridge while you are, in fact, picking them off one by one from a safe and hidden area.
